FireFly is a data-driven wildfire spread simulation modeling system developed in collaboration with CERFACS and the University of Maryland. In this system, the wildland fire is described as a propagating front, whose rate of spread is based on Rothermel’s semi-empirical formulation, and incorporates an ensemble-based data assimilation algorithm based on thermal-infrared imaging assimilation.
